Thomas and Meredith met on December 31st, 2018—also known as New Year's Eve.
They didn’t share a kiss that night, but Thomas did ask for Meredith’s number. It took several months of convincing, however, Meredith finally agreed to go on a date with Thomas in April of 2019. Their first date was no dinner, but a competitive evening at Round1. The young teenagers spent the evening arguing and laughing, all while playing every arcade game they could get in line for. Meredith told Thomas not to go easy on her, and to her surprise, he listened. She couldn’t admit it then, but she was impressed by his honesty and skills in air hockey. Several dates later (and a first kiss), she found herself alone in her bedroom thinking,
“Ah sh!t, I might really like him.”
On April 27th, 2019, Thomas was gearing up to pitch at Concordia University in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament when Meredith asked to be his girlfriend. (Yes, she asked because she already told Thomas no, three times before.) Meredith got a cheeky smile and a "yes," while Thomas got a GPAC win and a woman he’d never forget.
Thomas and Meredith have been together for over six crazy years. A lot has happened since their first meeting. Meredith graduated from high school and completed two bachelor's degrees. Thomas achieved his master's. There were lows with unfulfilling jobs and athletic setbacks. There were bittersweet moments—from welcoming babies to losing influential grandparents. Yet, it was all a part of the plan.
Because when Thomas surprised Meredith, who was on a girls’ trip to Kansas City on October 25th, 2025, at Loose Park on one knee, she cried and cried (and cried)— because the man of her dreams wanted to continue on a lifetime more of memories.
While the number of baseball games Meredith attended is hazy, along with the ever-growing number of photos Thomas has viewed from her galleries. The one thing that is clear is how pumped they are to make it official in front of God and all of you.
